We will not solve it. Not ever.
Our brightest -- our business and criminal classes --
are insufficiently clever
to find a way to profit from virtue
when it is cheaper to do things that hurt you.
Proposed "solutions"? Expensive and drastic.
Unless we swiftly evolve to can eat plastic
and also to thrive on bad water and air,
the simple fact is we haven't a prayer
of surviving even one or two centuries.
Our species is a deadly disease.
For what it is worth, we're destroying the Earth.
However, in turning ourselves into compost,
we may, in fact, be saving the Cosmos.
Or leaving it to some little green men
to bring the damned thing to an end.
Which, we trust, if they're "smart" like us
they will accomplish with minimal fuss.
